Jagdtiger (hunting Tiger) The Jagdtiger (hunting tiger) was the heaviest AFV to serve in World War II and carried the second largest gun of any wartime tank or tank destroyer. Designed as an anti-tank gun, the 128mm gun could theoretically defeat 148mm armour at 2000m, which meant, in effect, any tank inthe world! The Jagdtiger's own upper frontal armour was a record 250mm, impenetrable by anything short of a battleship. It was developed, as was the practice of the time, as the tank destroyer counterpart to the latest battle tank, the Tiger II With the same powerplant as much smaller tanks, the heavy jagdtiger was fuel-thirsty, slow and hard to conceal. Eventually most were overwhelmed by infantry with Bazookas or charges that stuck to the most vulnerable parts - the wheels and the tracks - and they became mileposts on the road to Berlin This kit is available from www.tankzone.co.uk and I would HIGHLY recommend it!! Definately need a few modelling skills and of course a King Tiger donor kit. |
The finished beast! |
Close up showing the battle damage |
You get a sense of just how HUGE this thing was when you see the driver sat there, looks so tiny! |
All the individual bolt heads had to be drilled and screwed in place, quite theraputic! |
